If Scottish Labour cannot recover, it will be near-impossible for the Labour Party to win a majority in Britain

Alleviating such misery was the historic mission of the Labour Party in Scotland, which Mr Sarwar was elected to lead on February 27th. Towns like Paisley were its firmest strongholds, reliably returning Labours since the war. At its zenith 20 years ago it ran Britain. Scots filled the Cabinet, in the form of Gordon Brown, Robin Cook, John Reid and Alistair Darling, and the ranks of advisers. In 1999, the party created Scotland’s devolved government, and then ran it. It was downhill from there.

A senior Tory compares Mr Sarwar favourably to Ruth Davidson, who revived the Scottish Conservatives. Like Sir Keir Starmer’s election to Labour’s leadership last year, it is a tack to the centre following the lacklustre tenure of Richard Leonard, who fired and then rehired Mr Sarwar to the shadow cabinet. “We didn’t join the Labour Party to be a protest movement,” says Mr Sarwar. An exodus of disgruntled Corbynistas helped him win.

We know.

as SNP recedes Labour will probably start to recover in Scotland but perhaps it will take some time and Tories will give Labour a run for its money

With Sawar it will be impossible not near impossible.

OPPORTUNIST AnasSarwar Hypocrite

Labour voters can’t even decide what gender they are on any given day. I’m not sure they’ll be able to handle any sort of electoral decision.

Do you think this is what people really need right now?

Without an immediate change from the archaic unjust FPTP electoral system to proportional representation the UK is left to the mercy of corrupt cronyism & undemocratic minority government.

Good. Labour Party is full of loons. Many of their voters can't even figure out which gender they are.

It’s about time the Labour party woke up smelt the coffee and realise that they are no longer a party of national government. They therefore need to accept the need for electoral reform and drop their support for FPTP.

This will never happen

If so, they are dead

Keir Starmer possesses the ability to reorganize Labour Party in Scotland .

England will continue to remain the stronghold of Tories.

The only way to change things is to challenge them. The NHAparty if backed by just NHSuk staff would have biggest Political Party membership in Europe & get people to stand up for NHS, housing, benefits etc. Take Tory seats & be new 3rd Party & then king makers. After that ?

And they can't and won't.
