The Flash has completely disappeared from the box office chart extraordinarily quickly. The movie, which is the latest blockbuster from DC Studios, follows titular speedster Barry Allen as he ends up in an alternate world after going back in time to prevent his mother's murder. The movie's lukewarm opening weekend of $55 million was followed by the worst week 2 drop in the history of the franchise, previous entries in which were known collectively as the DC Extended Universe.
Deadline recently shared the updated domestic box office Top 10 chart for this weekend. Although it featured many holdover blockbusters including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Flash 2023 was conspicuously absent. The movie's lackluster domestic grosses fell below even the recent DreamWorks Animation flop Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, which placed tenth this weekend with $2.8 million.

There are quite a few movies in this weekend’s Top 10 that opened before The Flash’s theatrical run even began. This includes Transformers: Rise of the Beasts at No. 8, Across the Spider-Verse at No. 5, and even The Little Mermaid at No. 9.
The Flash is the third notable flop in a row for the company. Their previous outing, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, did even worse by becoming the franchise's lowest-earning movie with a worldwide total of $133.7 million. That movie was preceded by the Dwayne Johnson-led Black Adam, which made $393.3 million but couldn't quite overcome its enormous price tag.
The The Flash box office doesn't spell good things for the next DCEU-connected entries, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. So far it seems that the only hope for turning the franchise's financial prospects around is the incoming rebranded DC Universe, spearheaded by new DC co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
