Arkasha Stevenson: I think what was so wonderful is having ending, because I think the biggest question that people have when they see The Omen is, where did Damien come from? And so once you have that answered and you're dovetailing into the 1976 version, that gives you all of this real estate to play with, which was really important to us, to create this new world and also explore this character Margaret, who I think when I first read the script, I was so excited to explore this novitiate.
Immediately you just fall in love with Margaret, because Nell brought a lot of her lovely personality to Margaret. She's very endearing and very relatable. There's this moment where she's in her novitiate outfit, and she's trying to stand very still and wait in the hallway. Then she just slips, she gets a little embarrassed, and tries to cover up. For some reason, that moment was so endearing and made her such a human. Nell just made Margaret such a human right off the bat.
The First Omen Leans Into The Mythology Behind The 666 Birthmark The First Omen is an opportunity to delve further into the world of The Omen, with iconic characters returning and homages to the original movie. It also opens the door to the creators exploring elements of lore and mythology that they are especially invested in allowing Stevenson to dig into a specific question she's been obsessed with since she was a child.
Horror taps into communal fears, with religious horror often showing the darker sides of institutions and corruption, as well as the horror drilled into many people throughout their childhoods by those very institutions. While The First Omen does indeed lean into this fear it also reflects another institution without outright spotlighting it.
