A hearing has begun that will determine whether or not Missouri’s last abortion clinic can remain open

Photo: SAUL LOEB/AFP/Getty Images The months-long battle for Missouri’s last-standing abortion clinic will culminate this week with a commencement of hearings that will determine whether it can remain open or if the state health department will be allowed to revoke its license.

In May, Republican Governor Mike Parson signed extremely restrictive legislation that banned abortion at eight weeks of pregnancy, with limited exceptions for medical emergencies, but none for rape, incest, or human trafficking.

Chuck Hatfield, the attorney for Planned Parenthood, also played a video deposition of William Koebel, director of the section of the health department responsible for abortion clinic licensing, that showed him responding to a question that asked whether the clinic was unsafe. “Not that I recall,” Koebel said.
