There are serious equity issues with saying 'college isn't for everyone'

. Overall, for adults ages 25 to 34 years old, bachelor’s degrees lead to median earnings that are 57% more than adults from this age group with just a high school degree. The value of a college degree means so much more for diverse subgroups. African Americans with bachelor’s degrees earn 65% more than those with a high school degree, women earn 61% more, and Asians earn a whopping 105% more.

A four-year college degree is a valid predictor of lifetime earnings, with a multiplier effect for diverse populations.These numbers highlight just one flaw of the “college isn’t for everyone” notion. We must continue to prioritize college education because levels of educational attainment still have a dramatic impact on the economic success of our overall population, including a disproportionately strong impact on the earnings of our diverse subgroups.

Earning gaps aside, other equity issues refute the “college isn’t for everyone” narrative. With rapidly accelerating technological advances caused by increased automation and artificial intelligence,than jobs at the higher end of the spectrum. Futurist Alvin Toffler famously stated that the illiterate of the 21st century will be “those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Also bubbafett33, these trades are very hard very tough for young people to break into. And in our rapidly changing workforce, while certain crafts will remain competitive, several involving more repeatable tasks will be lost to automation a lot quicker

I don't live in a fantasy world. I understand that 100% of students will not go to college. I'm just not okay with a 'college isn't for everyone' that presumes a certain type of student that college isn't for

College is overrated. Some of the most impressive & successful people I know did not attend. I found my 4-year liberal arts education extremely inefficient. Most of us were more focused on our social lives than actually retaining information long-term. ❤️
