Let's be clear: We usually use the microwave to heat up a small mug of water for tea/instant coffee. We use a kettle or pot on the stove to actually boil water for a recipe. Big difference than what your article explains. Also: relax.

I have a microwave and rarely use it, things taste better reheated on the stove. Plus I don’t feel like whatever you put dilutes well in the microwaved water. It’s just not the same

Yup, I nuke that water. Less hassle, it's quick, and the boil-over thing is completely blown out of proportion. And, yes a pretty specific set of variables have to be present for it to catastrophically boil over.😁👍

I have never microwaved water. Not once. I have a stove top kettle, and I use that. I had no idea people heated water this way.

I think it's dangerous to boil water in a microwave. Too easy to superheat the water and cause sudden boil over from something as slight as picking up the cup afterwards. Usually it just bursts out of the cup while being microwaved. Are there rough surface cups for that?
