After winning seven Tours de France in eight years, the reign of Team Ineos—formerly Team Sky—has ended

CULOZ, France—The scene on a French mountain would have seemed impossible a year ago. Egan Bernal, the best rider on the most dominant team in cycling, suffering his way uphill at the Tour de France to the point of submission.

All the way up Sunday’s climb on the Grand Colombier, he wriggled on his bike, getting nowhere. Bernal could only stare at his handlebars and shake his head, as hopes of a second straight yellow jersey ran away from him. His legs felt empty.

Thank you for your comment. Your comment will be published after being reviewed.

Wait for next year. Bernal is only 23.
