Parsons played Sheldon Cooper on all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, from 2007 to 2019. He then returned to Sheldon’s world, this time as the narrator, in the prequel series, Young Sheldon. He also served as the show’s executive producer.
“I felt a slight hesitancy when they first asked, just as I thought, I don’t really want to go revisit the character. But the way that they wrote it in was I thought so beautiful that it ended up being like this little extra coda or whatever to my experience with the character,” said Parsons. The one-hour Young Sheldon finale is expected to explore the aftermath of the patriarch’s death. It is also revealed that the final hour of the prequel series will fast-forward to the future, which will see the adult Sheldon revealing why he has been narrating his childhood.
