Baby formula, a supplement or substitute for breastfeeding, is the latest in the long line of shortages that have marked the two-plus years of pandemic.
It started in February, when Abbott Laboratories one of the largest manufacturers of baby formula, recalled several defective brands and shut down its Sturgis, Michigan factory after at least four babies were hospitalized with bacterial infections and at least two died. While there are other suppliers, they likely don’t have enough ingredients and supplies on hand to fill the void experts say.
Abbott said Wednesday it could restart the Michigan site within two weeks pending FDA approval, but from there, it could take six to eight weeks before baby formula appears on the shelves. Honestly, it’s a nightmare scenario for us. Our daughter is 2 months old and for medical reasons cannot breastfeed. We are doing all we can for her, but no access to formula is a life threatening situation for her. It’s heartbreaking. It’s seriously terrible my son was a micro preemie and has choking issues with regular formula. He needs thickened formula and it’s been impossible to regularly purchase it. So stressful.
Tell them ByHealth is available. Natural ingredients and made in Pennsylvania.
I was in 3 grocery stores today. They all had full baby formula cases. And I say “cases” because it’s locked up because it’s one of the most stolen items from grocery stores. ProLife
build back better?
Another thing they’ll need to travel to CA for. Ever think maybe it’s TX that’s the problem?
