, about the mission to rescue Thai football team the Wild Boars from Tham Luang cave, which will stream globally from September 22, 2022.
Created and written by Michael Russell Gunn and Dana Ledoux Miller, the series is billed as a “deeper dive into this incredible rescue mission” that includes more background on the experiences of the football coach, Coach Eak, and the 12 boys while trapped inside the cave. The series also include interviews with the real boys from the Wild Boars team and props from the actual events of 2018.
Dr. Richard “Harry” Harris – the Australian anesthesiologist and cave diver who took part in the rescue – also worked on the show, as the body double of Rodger Corser, who plays Dr. Harris in the series. The show was filmed entirely in Thailand, including Tham Luang cave, with Thai directors Kevin Tancharoen and Baz Poonpiriya. As deeper parts of the cave can’t be used as a filming location, the production team scanned them with 3D LIDAR advanced laser technology, then recreated the interior chambers of Tham Luang on a soundstage.
Showrunner Miller says: “I’m eternally thankful for all the people who trudged through knee-high mud, dammed a cave, were pelted with five different levels of rain for hours on end, spent weeks creating a LIDAR scan and then recreated caves on set, spent hours underwater slamming against rocks, and took Covid test after Covid test and wore N95 masks in 99 percent humidity day after day, all so we could share this story with the world.
