A report released by Texas A&M AgriLife details the damage and losses suffered from the Smokehouse Creek and Windy Deuce fires. The agriculture losses from the fires are $ 123 million making it the costliest in Texas history.

Economists with Texas A&M AgriLife estimate that $123 million around $68 million is damages to ranch infrastructure. The loss of livestock and the projected costs will continue to rise during the spring and into summer. The losses include more than 12,000 cattle deaths and cattle prices are expected to increase as ranchers work to repair their infrastructure.

“We’ve had a lot of blessings here and a lot of the ranchers say give it to my neighbor first and he needs more than I do we find that is code words and everybody needs it,” said Andy Holloway, extension agent for Hemphill County. “The beauty of this situation is there is plenty for everyone.”
