Texas school districts saw improved standardized test scores in reading and math this year. Historically, Texas has had difficulty catching students up after a major school disruption. But lower-income students didn't fare as well as their peers.

“This gives you a picture of what has happened statewide with regard to student proficiency and it is largely a story of recovery. It is a story of hope,” Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said. “It is evidence that we have extraordinary people working in public schools in Texas.” While the 2021-22 scores showed improvements in math for third- through eighth-graders current math levels remain 10 percentage points under the 2019 math levels. Texas had been making successful strides in math scores since 2012, when only 34% of students met grade level or above.

English language learners and special education and economically disadvantaged students also improved their scores in reading and math. While there were gains for these students, a significant gap still exists between them and non-economically disadvantaged students. In math, 55% of students who aren’t economically disadvantaged met grade level or above. In reading, 67% met grade level or above.

Yet, the republicans in this state are actively destroying public education!

Scores rise when teachers can give them the answers

Yeah... they're still failing almost everything, but slightly less horribly than before.

When talking about states' educational performance try to Compare performance and costs across states. I am asking for a friend. GOPGovs DemGovs votevets

Thank you Texas teachers. Its been a rough couple years

Because teachers worked their asses off and burn out is so high many quit. It all comes at a cost. The Texas republican government does not support teachers or public school.

teainfo eMetricLLC How can we know how far the gap has widen when you no longer allow disaggregation by ethnicity? How can we support ALL students if we don't know where they are?

That's what happens when we scrap the dumpster fire that the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) calls the proper way to do common core math as of 2010. kids end up excelling at mathematics again with old common core methods.

The tests change each yea different teachers each year, and different students each year. What useful data did they glean from standardized testing?

Is there any story about education, other than sports, where the story would not end with “But lower-income students didn't fare as well as their peers”? How is this not 100% instinctive? Do a story where lower-income students do better, and THAT would be compelling.

Yup, Abortions Are Once Again Illegal in Texas, Thanks to the Texas Supreme CourtThe court blocked a temporary order issued earlier this week that allowed abortions for people up to six weeks pregnant until Texas’ 1925 abortion ban goes into effect at the end of July Lol Backwards. You regress, America, and I pity your women and families. The case of RvW should only be concerned with the Constitution does not grant permission to impede any woman's right to self determination. No person shall block by any means a person's right to choose their way forward. No person shall have the will of another forced upon her.
