August Pfluger knocked the ball into center field in the final inning of Wednesday night’s congressional baseball game, his colleague, Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., couldn’t make the catch.
Rep. Greg Casar, D-Austin, recently claimed the title of fastest man in Congress by winning the annual Capital Challenge 3-mile race. He put that speed to use as a pinch runner, stealing several bases and scoring runs while wearing a University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners jersey. He confirmed he’s a fan of the Texas Rangers, the closest team to his hometown of Shreveport, a three-hour drive from Dallas.The game raises money for Washington Literacy Center, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and Washington Nationals Philanthropies. Wednesday night’s game, played at Nationals Park just south of the U.S. Capitol, sold about 30,000 tickets and raised more than $2.2 million.
Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., was shot in the hip and seriously injured in the attack. A staffer, two members of the Capitol Police and a lobbyist were also wounded.with Wednesday’s offensive output, though he will no doubt push his players to tighten up on defense next year.
