That, after all, is what proud fathers do when their son steps into the batter’s box for the first time. It didn’t matter that this at-bat was broadcast on national television.
His first career at bat — the one which Michael filmed — went like this: Wyatt worked a full count to lead off the second inning, but struck out looking on a Justin Steele slider inside. His second at bat, two innings later: the rookie sent a near-identical Steele slider 340 feet into center field to score Jung from third and tie the game at 1-1.
“He’s done that his whole life,” Michael said. “When he was young I played him a couple years above his age bracket. He’s always been better than everybody else, and always rose to the competition. Always.”with his first home run of the season, Langford recorded his first career hit on an infield single. He beat out a throw from Gold Glove shortstop Dansby Swanson to reach.
