Is it the Coors Field curse? A rainy night in Colorado led to a bullpen breakdown and another sloppy loss for the Rangers.

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Andrew Heaney throws in the first inning of a baseball game against the Colorado Rockies, Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Denver. Bruce Bochy knows this. Been coming here as a visitor since the place opened nearly 30 years ago. Still can’t figure out how to explain them. Take Saturday, the latest example. Rangers starter Andrew Heaney didn’t allow a walk. The Rangers figured out how to manufacture a run. They took leads to the bottom of the sixth and the seventh.

The Rockies tied the game in the sixth on that most unlikely of Coors Field offensive weapons: The balk. Then they scored six runs, all after there were two outs, most of them off one of the Rangers’ most consistent relievers: David Robertson. The Rangers had been 16-1 in games in which Robertson had appeared this season. He faced four batters on Saturday and didn’t retire any of them, allowing a pair of singles up the middle, hitting one batter and walking another.

Cole Winn, the Colorado native, then allowed back-to-back two-run hits. It was raining by that time. Pouring runs. “We had a chance to get out of it and I’ve just got to be better,” Robertson said. “I just lost all command. I’m not going to make any excuses. I just couldn’t figure it out. That’s on me.”The Rangers offense, which scored 15 and 12 runs in games in Oakland to win three of four, once again lost its groove. The Rangers have managed to score five runs over two games in the park voted Most Likely to Surrender an Offensive Landslide. Not even manufacturing runs could get the Rangers started.
