The parents of a middle school student are suing a Houston-area school district and school officials in federal court for allegedly coloring in his hair design earlier this year with a black permanent marker

According to the lawsuit filed Sunday, officials at the Berry Miller Junior High in Pearland, Texas, claimed the design in the then-seventh grader's haircut violated the Pearland Independent School District's dress code policy. The suit alleges,"They laughed as they took many minutes to color 13-year-old J.T's scalp which took many days of scrubbing to come off.

Peterson -- who, like the administrators, is identified in the court document as white -- came into the office and was asked to use the marker on the boy's scalp and did so, the lawsuit says.Attorney says school district has done nothing but change policyRandall Kallinen, attorney for the student's parents Dante Trice and Angela Washington, said Tuesday that the school never tried to notify the family before coloring their son's scalp.

Folks in education sound pretty dumb given the headlines one sees.

I hope they win the case and fire the damn teachers that did such a stupid thing. They're not teachers the Klu Klux Klan disguise as teachers systematically segregating in Plainview. We as parents of color forgot to start teaching our children how to recognize racism.

Mustache and beard policy for grade school kids who can barely grow facial hair? This policy is more like copy and paste for the teacher grooming policy instead of kids. Bureaucrats who can’t even do their own homework!

Ability, potential, and talents are not measured by a single haircut. This young man will see the world differently. If he doesn't conform to dresscode policies, he will be forever judged and humiliated by those who are supposed to teach him.

Hmmm one too many cases in UK n USA of hair especially targeting me black child!

The school should have contacted the parents or sent the student home first. Rules are their for a reason. If we don't teach young minds respect, responsibility and courtesy, they just mind end up the president of the united states

'Peterson -- who, like the administrators, is identified in the court document as white' thanks CNN!

Again...total lack of self awareness and understanding what is appropriate and what is not...

Unbelievable!

We have rules in Texas.....don't follow the simple rules...get the sharpie.
