Dan Patrick, the lieutenant governor of Texas, has suggested that he and “lots of grandparents” would be willing to risk death from coronavirus to keep the economy going

Getty Images: Dan Patrick, the lieutenant governor of Texas, has suggested that he and “lots of grandparents” would be willing to risk death from coronavirus in order to prevent the U.S. economy from tanking under the weight of social distancing measures that he fears will impact his grandchildren and lead to the “loss” of America.

The 69-year-old added that America should “get back to work, get back to living and be smart about it” and that over-70s would take care of themselves. Social distancing measures are in place across the U.S. to contain the spread of the illness to the elderly and the immunocompromised, who areof dying from coronavirus, but President Donald Trump appears to be weighing the risk of these measures against their threat to the U.S. economy.

Easy to say from a position of privilege! Who cares if some else dies.

With this attitude, can you imagine how many children will be orphaned to 'keep the economy going'!! How many children will die from contracting COVID from their hardworking parents? And he gets airtime for making these statements? And support? I'm at a loss for words!

Just ask him and Trump one simple question....how many corona casualties would he consider acceptable to safe the economy....if he so self assured, he should have the courage to answer that question....

You better change this governor and find someone who is more willing to protect you.

This is not a quick death by lethal injection he is “volunteering” people for. His preference favors dying alone by gradual suffocation over a loss of income.

I didn’t vote for him - I don’t support him - and texans need to mark their calendars for November2022 elections

What must the majority of Texas be like to elect a greedy bozo like this? I shudder at the thought.

He should have Hillary suicide him to prove his point.

No need to follow an idiot.

Idiots in government abound...

This is nonsense. Stay at your home and don’t get infected. If you are old thats what you need to do

Trump would get his wall then, as the rest of the world would completely isolate the USA. No trade, no travel. These are not the actions of responsible leadership. The fact that it’s even being suggested is complete insanity.

Damn, that's Texas Bullseye™ bold!

Let him go then- clean out gene pool of stupid people. Put him to work at a hospital.

Are we witnessing something special here or what?

Jajaja
