The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission made a landmark decision Thursday, electing to eliminate the light goose conservation order. Flocks of snow geese arrive in Fort Bend County for winter During the 1990s, waterfowl conservationists were concerned about the detrimental impact that rapidly growing light goose populations could have on nesting habitat in the Arctic. Waterfowl managers feared overgrazing by this booming population of birds could cause irreversible damage to these breeding grounds. In response, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service established the light goose conservation order in 1999.
