Tina Aviles of The LIBRE Initiative writes that Hispanic voters want to protect the American dream, and they are increasingly seeing the Republican Party as the party of opportunity. For years, Texas progressives have predicted that it was just a matter of time before they turned Texas blue.

. Policy matters, and when it comes to what Hispanics want from government, politicians are finding out that it looks a lot like what many other Americans want: to stop erecting barriers to the American dream, to secure the border and provide certainty to our immigration system, and to stop wasting our money.

That’s a message that is resonating with Texas Hispanics who want to make the best use of the opportunity afforded by America to support our families, get our kids a quality education, and ensure access to quality health care.Republican Javier Villalobos was elected mayor of McAllen last year, surprising many in the national media, although not himself.
