Texas rivers may be home to tons of critters, but sharks aren’t usually the kind that comes to mind. However, that’s exactly what one Texas fisherman found swimming below the surface of the Guadalupe River . Insert obligatory ' Jaws ' joke here. OK. Moving on. On May 4, Texas TikTok user Jonathan Guayo and his fishing buddy reeled in a small bull shark from the Guadalupe River , a popular tubing destination for summertime river-goers.
In fact, according to the National Wildlife Federation, bull sharks are one of the only shark species that can survive in freshwater for long periods of time. They can typically be found in coastal waters, including the Gulf of Mexico. However, per the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, it’s actually pretty common for them to be found swimming miles upriver from the Gulf.
