Key Texas Republicans are now signaling openness to giving victims of rape or incest access to abortions.

Key Texas RepublicansDriving the news:

At the Texas Tribune's TribFest on Friday, a long-serving Republican state senator said he'd be open to a carve-out for rape — and the Texas House Speaker said he expected lawmakers would revisit the issue.Under current Texas law, abortions are virtually outlawed — including in cases of rape and incest."If I get a chance to vote for an exception to rape, I will vote yes," state Sen.

. "I think instead of us telling women what to do, we should show our support for women of this state."Nichols voted in favor of restrictive Texas abortion laws last year that made no exceptions for rape or incest. House Speaker Dade Phelan told Tribune CEO Evan Smith that the House might change the law that criminalizes abortion. The declarations come as Republicans worry about alienating women voters — especially suburban women voters — ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

keywestvibes Oh really? So utterly ridiculous it has come to this. RoevemberIsComing

'That is... just fantastic.'

How kind of them 😡

The right knows how to push for their issues. Their initial stance was never realistic, and yet the held the line, now what is still a radical position is touted as a concession

LOL.... They smell losing

Their mistresses must be threatening them...

keywestvibes well, that's certainly no reason to applaud them, but Axios will applaud them to the heavens

The gop is a poor choice.

Amazing. Like that's somehow reasonable.

That's real big of them, it's like taking away the pie and then offering back a piece of the crust. it's time to tell them to shove it up their ass VOTE BLUE 🗳

What about the morning after pill

Disgusting! It’s not murder if they are raped or a survivor of incest? It shows the hypocrisy Pregnancy shouldn’t be a punishment for women or girls who have sex by choice.

Better headline: Texas Republicans need to be afraid of their electoral prospects in order to be *potentially open* to the idea of rape victims having bodily autonomy and not needing to escape to other states for healthcare

They saw those polling numbers and found out they fucked up. I mean, it’s WAY too late now, but at least the GOP can finally die off as a political cancer that’s been holding us back for lifetime.

How f...ing generous of them!🤬
