Texas A&M abruptly disaffiliated from its “Draggieland” drag show last year, and then pulled its sponsorship for the 2022 show. The university still hasn’t told LGBTQ students why.

Despite the blowback, the shows were an enormous success. The criticism unintentionally backfired by serving as free advertising for Draggieland, leading to both performances completely selling out.alums Mo Heart and Alyssa Edwards presided over the 2020 and 2021 shows, respectively, as local amateur drag entertainers competed for the title of “Queen of Draggieland.”
