- Tennessee on Thursday executed a 68-year-old man who was convicted three decades ago of suffocating his wife with a large plastic garbage bag, a crime he blamed on an inmate on work release.

Donnie Johnson was put to death by lethal injection at 7:37 p.m. CDT at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, the state’s Department of Correction said in a statement. Johnson’s co-worker Ronnie McCoy, an inmate on work release, testified that he left the couple alone in an office for about 15 minutes. When he returned, he found Connie suffocated, according to his court testimony.

Authorities said Johnson asked a store manager the next morning to help him find his wife, who he said had gone missing. During their search, they found her dead in her van with a large garbage bag in her mouth, according to court documents.

Man convicted in 4 killings set for execution in AlabamaMan convicted of killing four people, including two young girls, in dispute over pickup truck is set for execution in Alabama. Alabama, the hotbed for sanctity of life. Right? So Alabama has DeathPenalty alive and well; premeditated murder is a crime before God; be consistent, Alabama. You don’t get to kill humans if you are pro-life...you can’t rationalize this away. My grandfather was murdered, don’t me. Wait could get the death sentence in Alabama? I thought Alabama was a pro-life state? I'm so confused.

For foreign wives of Saudi Arabian men, legal limbo sometimes awaitsTeresa Malof moved to Saudi Arabia in 1996 to work in Riyadh. When Malof tried to leave her almost 18-year marriage, she quickly crashed against limits imposed by a sharia-based legal system that has often treated women as second-class citizens, and that has left wives with little recourse in court.
