The record, which interpolates Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 Nigerian hit of the same name, is set to appear on the musician’s highly-anticipated debut album
Sodimu appears in the “Love Me Jeje” visual, which pays homage to Tems’ hometown of Lagos, Nigeria. The clip opens with the musician settling in at a karaoke spot where the song is loaded onto the television set. As a director, she highlights the architecture and culture of Lagos, capturing sweaty bodies dancing through the night in tandem with families sharing laughs while braiding hair and riding through the street.
“If not you, then I don’t wanna know, I don’t want no story/Day and night, it’s unconditional, got mе living softly/Love me JeJe, love me tender,” Tems sings on the record, using the Nigerian word for “softly” or “gentle.” The single was produced by Spax and Guiltybeatz with lyrics from the singer.is set to arrive this month, but Tems has not yet shared an official release date or tracklist.
