Dawnta Harris, 17, was convicted of felony murder in the death of Baltimore County Police Department Officer Amy Caprio, who was fatally struck in May 2018 after responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle.
Police said Harris initially complied with the officer's commands to exit the Jeep, but he got back in and quickly accelerated, driving toward and striking Caprio. She suffered broken ribs and injuries to internal organs, authorities said. "I am truly sad, heartbroken and sorry for what happened," Harris wrote in a letter read aloud by his attorney."We are still young. No one is perfect."
Caprio and her husband, Tim Caprio, celebrated their third wedding anniversary just days before her death. They were planning to celebrate their birthdays a few days later.
There are too many teens like this. What kind of upbringing have they had to even think about this kind of crime?
I guess I don’t have a problem with the sentencing as long as it’s the same for everybody. 🧐
Hit and runs rarely get EVER get even a license suspension let alone a couple years in prison. This is terrible. He needs punishment and rehabilitation but nothing, nothing like this.
Should have gotten the death penalty!
This Canadian finds sentences to be so much more in USA! Certainly deepest sympathy to family who lost Police Officer! In Canada life sentence is 25 years !Can get out earlier if take programs and are considered good candidates for parole!
Too harsh a sentence for a teenager, I could see 5 years prison (not adult prison) and psychological therapy...life in prison? (NO) this is not justice it’s retaliation by the courts.
Baltimore Strong 🤣
Lesson do others: Do not steal cars..comply with officers, and do not intentionally hit LEO's with cars.
In my area, a young women struck and killed a man with her car, fled the screen(felony) and was sentenced to 75 days in jail and 22 months(?) Probation.
Damn. If that teen were a cop he'd only get suspended for two weeks.
Good, fuck that teenager
In brazil, nothing would happen with the teen. Nothing.
When are ppl going to realize that when this happens you dont just take one life- you take many in the process. A death leaves a hole waiting to be filled.
I’m hoping he never walks free, but there are already people making excuses for him.
Life in prison is fair, regardless of him being so young. It’s not like he was on his way to Sunday school at church... if he didn’t get life now, he’d just get life in a couple years when he commits another felony.
Oh. But the Cop killing a guy with choke hold is fine.
About time a liberal Nazi is convicted for killing a cop! Has Baltimore started rioting yet?
Good
Good.
So much loss...life and life possibility
How very sad and heartbreaking for everyone involved
Life in prison. Outstanding. Just surprised it wasnt a hate crime.
I find it curious how police get set free from killing ppl regularly but a cop gets ran over and a teenager gets life.
Baltimore is such a wonderful place I’m shocked. Shocked I tell you.
His story may end up in a Hollywood movie most probably 😄
