Teen makes history as school's first-ever African American male valedictorian

Rawlin Tate Jr., a student at Woodland High School in Stockbridge, is graduating with a 4.7 GPA. The impressive senior is the first black male to hold the highest academic title at his school since it opened in 2007.

"I see it as a benchmark for other males and not only at Woodland, but at other locations," dad Rawlin Tate Sr. told"GMA.""Rawlin succeeded in extra curricular and academics. This is the opportunity for other men to [say], 'Hey, being smart is OK.'" "He is brilliant, talented, a musical genius and is one of the most well-rounded students that I've ever had the opportunity to work with," Ellis said.

He received more than $1 million in scholarship offers and was accepted to all 14 schools he had applied for including Louisiana State University, Morehouse College, Ohio State University, Georgia Institute of Technology -- to name a few.

How does one obtain a 4.7 gpa? I understand the premise of incentivizing students to take AP or dual enrollment classes by weighting those grades. (1.05 or 1.1 x numerical grade actually earned) but to get to 4.7, a student’s gpa is boosted by 17.5%. Need to know 4.7/? 5?

i could teach HTML at the recovery center i was told i have the opportunity to teach a class at a mental health rehabilitation center and i'm cool i'll do that that strikes me as extremely university teaching at a mental health recovery center something like that is university

then there's the weed out class he has to take which is a purposefully extremely difficult class just to see if he's hardcore enough to graduate

Good for him. But tbh, so? There were over 40 students with 5.0's higher in my graduating class years ago and quite a few were African American. Its really not that hard; actually pretty sad I guess that the school hasn't had ANY African Americans4.7 when you think about it. 2-2
