Over the weekend, an 18-year-old ran into the Fox Hills Country Club clubhouse causing a fire destroying the building.
“You can rebuild a building, all of that stuff is fixable. We’re just glad nobody was hurt, glad the driver wasn’t hurt, glad none of our member or our guests we had coming in for the weekend were injured, that’s the main thing," Holden Smith, a Fox Hills board member and former board president, said.
Smith recounts Saturday morning when he heard the news. “I opened up my text messages and it said we’re not having a tournament this weekend, somebody hit the building, once they hit the building it burnt and obviously we’re rescheduling the tournament. We’ve got bigger issues and bigger fish to fry here,” Smith said.
The country club already has a temporary tent building up with plans of getting back to business as usual shortly. “Hopefully by this time next week we’ll be back up taking greens fees, back up and bringing carts, everything like that the gold operations side of the business will be mostly back to normal this time next week is our goal," Smith said.
Smith said the plan is to rebuild the clubhouse which was erected in the 1970s. “As far as the clubhouse goes we’re in the insurance process right now, seeing exactly what that looks like. How all that flushes out, getting quotes and estimates, permits and all of that good stuff," Smith said.Want to Share Something with Our Team?
