Texas and some other Republican-controlled states this year moved toin public schools and colleges amid the nation’s racial reckoning after last year’s police killing of George Floyd.
Karen Fitzgerald, a spokeswoman for the Carroll school district, said in a written statement to NBC News that the district is trying to help teachers comply with the law. She said the district’s interpretation of it requires teachers to provide balanced perspectives during classroom instruction and in books offered in the classroom. She said the district won’t require that books be removed.
Clay Robison, a spokesman for the Texas State Teachers Association, a union representing educators, said the district’s book guidelines are an “overreaction” and a “misinterpretation” of the law. Three other Texas education policy experts agreed. “I’m glad we can have this discussion to help elucidate what the bill says, because that’s not what the bill says,” Hughes said.
What can be done about these laws? Why aren’t they being challenged in court? There seems to be very little conversation about the laws themselves, bill 3979 and sb3. They’re terrifying and dangerous. If one state can get away with this, more will swiftly follow.
What opposing view Mein Kamph!
You mean 'Mein Kampf? 🤣🤣🤣🤡
Would you expect anything less from Texas.
I would consider this anti semitism.
Sounds good: I OPPOSE THE HOLOCAUST..happy now?!?
The administrator undebatably deferred to and supported the teachers,'if you think the book is ok, then go with it and whatever happens we will fight it.' Purdy was trying to deal with a horrid TX law but focusing solely on the Holocaust example attracts more attention.
So they’re saying that this public school district administrator is a mindless drone? Parents of that district won’t like the sound of that, either.
Assuming that she misinterpreted the law is... charitable. I think it's more likely that she just hates everyone who isn't a white upper middle class heterosexual evangelical christian.
Based off of these comments, it appears that there are quite a few people on Twitter with undiagnosed mental illness issues they should have treated. Perhaps I'm one of them. 🤔
