because of the apparent play on the popular wedding rhyme, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” There also appears to be a positive twist on a phrase similar to the title one of Taylor’s most emotional songs, “All Too Well,” hence the line “All’s well that ends well / To end up with you.”
And it turns out the song is just as romantic as pretty much everyone expected. The track, which was co-produced by Jack Antonoff, is a beautiful, bluesy ballad that will likely be a wedding song for Swifties everywhere, especially when you consider the wedding vow-esque lyrics, “Ladies and gentlemen / Will you please stand / With every guitar string scar on my hand / I take this magnetic force of a man / To be my lover.
It wouldn’t be a Taylor Swift song without references to her past work and foreshadowing made possible by easter eggs, and “Lover” includes quite a few of both. The lyric “We can leave the Christmas lights up until January” ties into the Christmas tree seen in the “ME!” music video, the snow falling in the lyric video for “The Archer,” and the “sno-cones” in the “You Need To Calm Down” music video.
Fans have also pointed out that the song “Lover” is 3:41 in length, and the reverse order of that is 143, which is known to be a numerical representation of the letters in “I love you.”comes out in just one week, on Friday, August 23rd, after what feels like years of hints and teasers. Taylor recently held
in London, Nashville, and Los Angeles, where she privately plays the album to fans weeks before its release. Judging by “Lover” and the words of these fans, this album is going to be one of Taylor’s best.
