After the news initially broke that Roberts died Sunday night, spokespeople later confirmed that she died Monday from a urinary tract infection.

, sepsis is the body's extreme response to an infection. A simple infection can trigger a"chain reaction" in the body, and without treatment, sepsis can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death.

With UTIs in particular,"the amount of bacteria overwhelm the bladder system, and the bacteria leaves the bladder and enters the blood chain because you have blood vessels that run through your bladder," Phillips explained. The amount of bacteria can make this more likely to occur, as can the type of bacteria. Some types are more prone than others to leave the urinary system, Phillips said.

Tanya Roberts died after being hospitalized for a urinary tract infection that spread to her kidneys and gallbladder, her longtime partner told TODAY.UTIs that lead to sepsis, a condition called urosepsis, are more common in older adults, Phillips said. In part, that can be because older adults may be asymptomatic and go untreated for longer, she explained.

"Older people tend to have less strong immune systems," Phillips added, and underlying health conditions." can also impact your body's response to treatment ... and make it harder for you to recover from symptoms sometimes," she said."Women shouldn't be afraid that their average UTI is going to kill them," she stressed." it teaches us that we shouldn't ignore UTI symptoms and should go to the doctor.

the UTI & sepsis that Tanya Roberts died from also affects the brain

THIS IS SAD SOMEONE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD DID NOT DO THERE JOB FOR HER. THIS IS A RARE SITUATION FOR SOMETHING LIKE TO HAPPEN.

😥🙏🙏🙏😥

Lost a friend, a nurse, this way in November. Her sepsis was initially missed due to sending her home because of covid beds needed.

Gawd damn, that's horrible. I can't say I've heard of someone dying from a UTI in awhile.😢

So sad!! May she Rest In Peace

UTI and Urosepsis are not female only conditions.. They kill men just as dead....They are of great concern in the elderly whose only obvious symptom may be a new or worsening confusion ( often mistaken for new onset dementia)

My grandmother died from a UTI that turned to sepsis. 😭

A what?!

😥

So young and seemingly in good health.

RIP

My dad almost died from exactly this while in the hospital recovering from a surgery. Telling my kids that their Grampie might die was the hardest thing I ever had to do. After two months, he finally came home last week. So sad that Tanya was not able to. :(

She’s officially officially officially deceased ?

This is what happens when doctors don’t want to see you due to covid and push for a phone appointment. Here in CA, rationing who can and cannot be seen has been happening since March. These are the consequences!!!

So sad her death was preventable.

Many times senior adults have a confusion or dementia symptom where it is a UTI, also dehydration. Untreated, they can immediately get worse & worse until it’s too late. So if you have a parent who acts more confused than usual or confused out of the blue, check them for a UTI.

My mother died from the exact thing in June. Women need to more educated on UTI and aging.

MY MOM DIED OF THIS

Caudillionaire

That's sad and scary
