by Adam Mikulich, KUTVLast week, Brigham Young University director of athletics Tom Holmoe announced that Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young has been hired as head men’s basketball coach at BYU . Young, who was born in Salt Lake City, will continue working with the Suns in the playoffs, but will begin working on retaining current BYU players, contacting recruits and assembling a coaching staff immediately.
Young spent eight years coaching in the NBA G League — including head-coaching jobs with the Utah Flash, Iowa Energy and Delaware 87ers. Young began to gain momentum as a head-coaching candidate in openings a year ago, including interviews with the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Houston Rockets and Suns. Young previously interviewed for head-coaching jobs with the Philadelphia 76ers, Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards.
On a recent edition of Talkin' Sports, Adam Mikulich was joined by Jared Lloyd from the Provo Daily Herald. Lloyd is one of Utah's premiere BYU insiders and gave Kevin Young a better than usual grade, and then weighed-in on why!
