Taliban says it has taken over Afghanistan's presidential palace after reports that President Ashraf Ghani fled the country

The Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan's presidential palace, two senior Taliban commanders present in Kabul told Reuters, after President Ashraf Ghani left the country.

There was no confirmation from the Afghan government about the Taliban's claim. Government officials were not immediately contactable. The US is racing to airlift diplomats and citizens out of Afghanistan after the Taliban overran most of the country and entered the capital early Sunday.Earlier on Sunday, the insurgents captured the eastern city of Jalalabad without a fight, giving them control of one of the main highways into landlocked Afghanistan.

President Joe Biden on Saturday authorised the deployment of 5,000 US troops to help evacuate citizens and ensure an "orderly and safe" drawdown of military personnel.

Taliban Take Over Kabul as Afghan President Flees CountryDemoralized Afghan security forces offered no resistance as the insurgents, who seized most of the country in just over a week, appeared Sunday morning on the capital’s outskirts. About time for the USA & allies to understand that remaining in Afghanistan will not change the fact that by force there is no lasting chance. We have the right to defend ourselves but we have to let the Afghanistan people to define their future moving forward. Was this president pocketing money for the last twenty years to escape? The US is so gullible. Of course. He failed his people. Biden was right to pull the plug. No Army, no matter the training, equipment or air force, can win if they lose the will to fight.

Afghan president flees the country as Taliban move on KabulAfghanistan’s embattled president left the country Sunday, joining his fellow citizens and foreigners in a stampede fleeing the advancing Taliban and signaling the end of a 20-year Western experiment aimed at remaking Afghanistan. The Taliban entered the capital early Sunday and an official in the militant group said it would soon announce the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the presidential palace — a return rich in symbolism to the name of the country under the Taliban government ousted by U.S.-led forces after the 9/11 attacks. The militants had earlier moved into a city gripped by panic, where helicopters raced overhead throughout the day to evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy. Joe POTUS ... not happy to feel this way, but he seems to be in way over his head. Looks like he’s been puppetized 지옥은 농담이 아닙니다 RedemptiveBlood

Afghan president flees country with Taliban on brink of powerDEVELOPING: Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani flees the country with Taliban fighters in Kabul and the group on the brink of taking power as the US rushes to exit 20 years after toppling the militant regime. Why The Gov. of Afghanistan gave up so fast & Why Thousands of their Military People that USA Trained & gave Weapons can't defend themselves & fighting against The Taliban,Where are the other Countries to help them?US got their own Problems here in USA & is not The World Polices! We can’t get this right what makes you think they can distribute $3.5T “human infrastructure” right? I hope the Taliban control their emotion and anger and respect their high command advice. I understand the anger, but Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.'
