Instead, the Taliban swiftly defeated, co-opted or sent Afghan security forces fleeing from wide swaths of the country, even though they had some air support from the U.S. military.
Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen told Qatar’s Al-Jazeera English satellite news channel that the insurgents are “awaiting a peaceful transfer of Kabul city.” He declined to offer specifics on any possible negotiations between his forces and the government. The negotiators on the government side included former President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the Afghan National Reconciliation Council, an official said. Abdullah long has been a vocal critic of President Ashraf Ghani, who long refused giving up power to get a deal with the Taliban.
“No one’s life, property and dignity will be harmed and the lives of the citizens of Kabul will not be at risk,” the insurgents said in a statement. But they also warned no one to enter the area around the capital.the last route out of the country Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, which typically carry armed troops, later landed near the U.S. Embassy. The U.S. decided a few days ago to send in thousands of troops to help evacuate some personnel from its embassy.
Earlier in the day, militants posted photos online showing them in the governor’s office in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province.
What the hell was Biden thinking ? He just blew 20 years of our military’s hard work. Withdrawal had to be done strategically with a plan.
Afghanistan 2004 - under a German Flag 🇩🇪
FrankSowa1 This sure isn't taking long.
Unbelievable
It’s a shame to leave all that military equipment behind, we could of given them to our US border patrol to control the ilegal immigration, billions of $$ thrown into the trash…
Transfer of power to whom?
Folded like a house of cards.
Hi I'm from the U.S. government and I'm here to help
Incredible moment of disappointment on this earth, and here in the west we are talking vaccine passports and mask wearing.
All of this because the Bush adminsitration didn't have the guts to call the right country after 9.11 which was Saudi Arabia. They went to Iraq and Afghanistan leaving a mess behind them.
Let's not pretend rolling tanks and guns up to a city and telling the government to leave is anything like a peaceful transfer just because the weapons aren't fired.
We did it Joe.
The US literally threw trillions away helping the Afghan government only for them to collapse days after our troops left. We spent 20 years there for nothing. Thank you George W. Bush for starting this trainwreck.
They took over without a fight and any bloodshed. Wow
Only Israel Know how to deal with this mfs..
By 2050, the US expects to import more than 80 percent of its petroleum from this region and much of that oil would be extracted from beneath the deserts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The struggle for control of this last great deposit of oil has been called “the Great Game.”
Good thing we left a well armed Afghan army to give the weapons to the Taliban
They await what? Peaceful transition? They must be out of bullets. Oh, I forgot, our military was ordered to leave all armament behind and run.

Ooooh lots go on there
Meanwhile
American diplomats in Afghanistan are being moved from the embassy in Kabul to the airport as the Taliban enter the capital, a U.S. official says. Military helicopters are shuttling between the embassy compound and the airport.
BuildBackBetter
NatashaBertrand The outrage over Afghanistan is somewhat a fluke. Why is no one asking the question; who is backing the Taliban? They don't manufacture weapons and ammunition; where are they getting their war gear from?
wow an air base and a prison, kind of like changing planes in dallas
Another American war lost. Waste of money and lives.
NatashaBertrand
NatashaBertrand Did they fire a single fricking shot in defense of the prison? Nope. They are not interested in fighting, they have no courage to fight, they are not worthy of any more of our time, money, or weaponry. 20 years and they’re as weak as the day we arrived.
Those college kids in Hong Kong put up more of a fight. U can’t convince me half the AFG security force wasn’t filled Taliban sympathizers
So fucking what?! We no damn babysitter?Bring our Troops home
Now we can use the Military money that we are saving to pay down our debt.
Incredible. After 19 years, Many lives lost ,many Soldiers wounded, and almost a trillion dollars, the Taliban walks right in as if there was never any Defense in place.
The Pentagon said a few days ago they thought Kabul might fall in a month ... hmmm. the Taliban will take Kabul and our government seems to have been blindsided by the speed of which this is happening... Afghanistan AfganistanBurning
I will just say oh well.
Way to go, Joe. Did you put Harris in charge of this border too?
Remember, Afghanistan was Taliban before America declared war on them. That's what the majority of the Afghan people want.
HarrisRichard77 why displaying picture of American Embassy burring their document? there is NO fight going on in KABUL
Thanks Biden
There will be no peaceful transition! With Taliban nothing is peaceful!
And the hits with the whole Biden Plan just keep on coming - when is MSM going to call out the perpetual incompetency?
Thoughts are with the people of Afghanistan 🇦🇫 20 years and what is there to show for it 😢 I hope UN, NATO counties and Australia do the right thing and plan for mass refugee settlement
