is being watched closely. They insist they have changed and won’t impose the same draconian restrictions they did when they last ruled Afghanistan, all but eliminating women’s rights, carrying out public executions and banning television and music., and thousands are racing to the airport and borders to flee the country. Many others are hiding inside their homes, fearful after prisons and armories were emptied during the insurgents’ blitz across the country.
As Afghans and the international community look to see if the Taliban will make good on their promises, photos circulated on social media of the destroyed statue. It depicted Abdul Ali Mazari, a militia leader killed by the Taliban in 1996, when the Islamic militants seized power from rival warlords. Mazari was a champion of Afghanistan’s ethnic Hazara minority, Shiites who were persecuted under the Sunni Taliban’s earlier rule.
When the Taliban were last in power they sheltered Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida while they planned the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. U.S. officials fear al-Qaida and other groups could reconstitute themselves in Afghanistan now that the Taliban are back in power. Hundreds of people were outside the airport early Wednesday. The Taliban demanded to see documents before allowing the rare passenger inside. Many of the people outside did not appear to have passports, and each time the gate opened even an inch, dozens tried to push through. The Taliban fired occasional warning shots to disperse them.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to all those who have worked with us to make Afghanistan a better place over the last 20 years,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said late Tuesday.
The Taliban: they’re just like us!
Half the people in America are racist especially towards Muslims. Can't they go to other Muslim dominant/friendly countries ?
JonLemire The Shiite will suffer… again
Does Heaven and Hell really exist? Is there 'life after our death'? Will we receive a reward or punishment; for how we treat each other, in this life? Please read the article, before posting a response :)
That is what you are supposed to do to the statues of internal enemies who fought against you. Unlike the USA who erected statues of the Confederate traitors, who fought against the USA, during the American Civil War.
These Proud Boys are extremist like Taliban & even look like them: Armed Insurgents out to take down the US & oppress the vulnerable (certain women & children who are not them). The FBI says Extremists are the same at home & abroad, focused on total control.
BASED

But Joe said they'll be peaceful
And awaaaaay we goooooo! Let the destruction begin!
no love lost between iran and the taliban….
What is so important about this? Focus on living people, not statutes of dead people. You seem to dig up only ridiculous BS. Go after your domestic terror of Trump's supporters. There is the real problem for you.
Demolishing statues of civil war leaders? That makes them just like Antifa and BLM. Am I doing this right?

I assume the statue wasn't seen as any cultural heritage of significance for Afghanistan. Part of a world heritage scene. Might get into trouble otherwise.
Je ne comprends pas pourquoi les forces américaines, avant leur départ n'ont pas désarmé ces conquérants . Ils ont conquis la ville sans tirer un coup de feu .
But British army chief says Taliban are different this time?
Just like Trump, Talibans don't like losers.
WOW
Guess Iran's an ally now.
