Taking an inside look at how Browns decided to draft Michael Hall Jr. and Zak Zinter

, which I wrote about earlier in the week. It’s all the draft picks – including first-rounders from 2022-24 – the Browns traded to Houston for their QB.Before I deal with what the Browns did with their top two picks in 2024, let’s take a quick look back at two key selections recently made by the Andrew Berry front office.Guardians’ fast start, good bullpen, have me talking to myself – Terry PlutoLast year, he took an athletic but overweight Daward Jones in the fourth round.

I’m going to look deep into what Berry and other members of the Browns said on draft night. I’m looking only at the first two selections:2. Zak Zinter, the offensive guard from Michigan. He was a third-round pick, No. 85 overall.1. Hall’s production at OSU in terms of sacks or tackles for loss don’t immediately impress. He was selected third-team All-Big Ten.

The defensive tackles will “get one-on-one matchups” when it comes to blocking because Garrett & Co. receive so much attention from blockers. It was a blending of philosophies. Berry loved Schwartz’s approach to defense and wanted to implement it if he ever had the chance as a GM.“ is tailor-made for our attack front. He’s explosive. He’s quick. He can rush the passer. He plays with a high motor. He is the quintessential 3-technique in our defense … his skill set and passion matches perfectly for our organization.”

Browns assistant GM Catherine Raiche talked about the rising costs to defensive tackles and how that factored into the selection of Michael Hall Jr.Consider the ages of the Browns veteran defensive tackles: Harris , Jefferson , Tomlinson and Hurst . The only young defensive tackle in the picture is Siaki Ika, the 23-year-old who was picked in the third round of 2023 and played little last season.

Michigan offensive lineman Zak Zinter acknowledges the fans as he is carted off last season against Ohio State. He suffered a broken leg.On the offensive line, guards Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller along with Jack Conklin are somewhat older, well paid and have dealt with injuries in the last few years.
