Taft girls soccer ready for playoffs after winning District 29-6A

A week after celebrating back-to-back District 29-6A championships, Taft turned its focus to preparing for what it hopes is a historic playoff run. The Raiders finished strong on Tuesday afternoon with an 8-0 victory against Harlan in their regular-season closer at Northside Field No. 2. Taft also ended district season undefeated for second straight year.

Your all-access pass to the best high school sports coverage in San Antonio Senior forward Jordan Matthews, sophomore midfielder Jessiny Aguillon and sophomore midfielder Alejandra Davis had two goals each. Matthews, who also had an assist, increased her season total to 42 goals, which leads the city. Junior goalkeeper Madissyn Harris recorded her seventh blank sheet in a row. Rangel and Davis also each had an assist. Isabella Anguiano had two assists.

Cast your vote here! “Facing those teams in preseason is different because we know what’s ahead of us,” Harris said. “I think we’re better prepared for what’s to come this year. We’re mature and better prepared because of our preseason. Seeing the progress over the year, this is definitely a well-seasoned team, and that’s what’s going to get us through, hopefully all the way to state.” Taft last lost a regular season match on March 1, 2022, a 1-0 defeat against Brennan.
