Sympathy For The Devil Trailer: Nicolas Cage Is A Terrifying Carjacker

Terrifying carjacker Nicolas Cage takes family man Joel Kinnaman on a wild ride in the new trailer for Sympathy for the Devil. Fresh off giving the most meta performance of his career in last year's The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Cage started out 2023 by sinking his teeth into the role of immortal vampire Dracula in the horror-comedy Renfield. Unfortunately, the much-hyped Renfield failed to draw much blood at the box office, grossing just $25 million worldwide.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Following up the relative disappointment of Renfield, Cage returns to more familiar ground for his latest effort, playing a manic carjacker opposite The Suicide Squad star Kinnaman in the thriller Sympathy for the Devil, which just dropped its first trailer via RLJE Films.

In the clip, Kinnaman is seen driving to the hospital to be with his wife as she gives birth, but is suddenly waylaid by a gun-toting Cage, who coldly orders the expectant father to "drive." What ensues is a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, as Cage sucks Kinnaman into his mysterious plans, manipulating him by threatening to unleash more mayhem on the innocent.

Everything We Know About Sympathy For The Devil Sympathy for the Devil comes courtesy of director Yuval Adler, whose previous films include The Secrets We Keep, which also starred Kinnaman, and the Diane Kruger-led thriller The Operative. Alongside headliners Cage and Kinnaman, the movie's cast includes Den of Thieves star Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau. As an interesting footnote, the movie - which largely takes place inside Kinnaman's car - was mainly shot at a virtual studio in Las Vegas.

Given its close-confines nature and tense premise, Sympathy for the Devil should give Cage and Kinnaman a chance to set off some big-time acting fireworks, with Cage giving one of his signature off-the-rails performances, while Kinnaman is cast in the role of the sober family man forced to navigate his way through this insane set of circumstances. Sympathy for the Devil is set to release in theaters and on demand on July 28, 2023.
