Australian wildfires have engulfed Sydney in haze so thick it is considered 11 times worse than the usual “hazardous' level and is apt to trigger fire alarms.

SYDNEY — Wildfires engulfed the Australian city of Sydney on Tuesday in haze so thick in some places it was 11 times worse than the level considered “hazardous,” and was apt to trigger fire alarms.Local health officials advised people to stay indoors as much as possible and those with heart and lung problems were told to avoid all outdoor activity.

“The smoke here in Sydney is extremely bad today, it is some of the worst air quality we’ve seen,” Richard Broome of New South Wales Health told reporters.Ambulances have been answering dozens of respiratory-related calls a day, said the head of NSW Ambulance, Brent Armitage. Sydney Trains warned that fire alarms at train stations might be set off by the thick smoke drifting into the city from fires ringing Sydney.

The regional environmental department said the air quality index, or AQI, in some parts of the city was more than 11 times the 200 reading considered hazardous. Given the dire air quality, workers should not be forced to toil on outdoor job sites while the haze persists, said Unions NSW’s assistant secretary, Thomas Costa.Winds were expected that could clear the air but also fan the brush fires, weather forecasts showed.

Hey! Ho! Scumo’s Got To Go! Answer Australia’s Burning Question Today! Aussies Can’t Wait For Tomorrison! ClimateCrisis

If Scomo has no solution other than prayer ...maybe we would be better off ditching him and getting the military to run the country for the next ten years ...we need a breather from the politics of politicians ..we need qualified leadership, insightful strategy and decisiveness

Most of the Fires are Deliberately lit.

Few years back now but we had the fire alarms trigger in a data centre once when the Sydney smoke got this bad

If this is the early wind of climate change, we should all be petrified... and propelled into action. Whether with bucket or spoon it'll take every hand to bail this ship.

Oh, my dear Sydney!! This is heartbreaking!!

Goodness. Sydney looks like downtown Beijing or 1973 New York City. NYC today proves that pollution and environmental controls really work. Trump would like to weaken EPA of course because big industry doesn't like that friendly environment nonsense.

Where's PM Morrison on this issue. Is his head still buried in the sand?

I bet they're really glad they voted for climate denier Scott Morrison now.

This is bad it looks horrible.

Wildfires Turn Sydney’s Surroundings Into an Inextinguishable Orange FurnaceAustralia’s biggest city has been shrouded in hazardous smoke for the past week, as wildfires burning across the country’s drought-stricken east coast are—in some cases—becoming too big to put out. It reminds me of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. politicians r selling us that they want to spend billions on drought proofing by building dams But what if the rain never came I think Australia's is beginning to look like the Bonanza intro from TV..although I could be wrong,i don't know the extent of California/las Vegas!
