Crosswalks are death traps. I see this all the time. They don't have actual red lights at most crosswalks and cars blow right through them obliviously.

This is outrageous. If it is actually true that traffic violations cannot be cited unless witnessed by an officer, then that law needs to change. If it's not true, then the officer claiming this needs to be fired.

In what percent of these incidents is a driver cited? Requiring an officer to be present is a really high bar. Especially given how many terrible intersections like this one we have in our country.

I think we need to make drivers education a required course in school. This whole teaching for profit is not turning out so well.

Yesterday, I waited a few seconds before traveling into the intersection when the light turned green. It saved my life.
Sure glad we live in a society that excuses reckless driving as 'inexperience' and where there's no way to cite a hit-and-run driver because police only witnessed it through a recording after the fact.
The driver may not be cited because of that stupid rule but the family can file a civil lawsuit for injuries if they wanted to. Everything was caught on video. There needs to be better training for all drivers getting a license. Also, people need to be more careful when crossing

The Bay Area’s full of poor, stoned, or inattentive drivers. Pedestrians shouldn’t have full faith in fellow drivers. I’m talking about those walking at night in dark clothing, crossing the streets w/o looking, or walking on the road surface despite a nice sidewalk next to it.

As someone who HAS been hit by a red light runner, let me say that's about as close as it gets without catastrophic results. I hope they are able to identify the driver & press charges. I wasn't quite as lucky, but I'll take broken a leg and 6 broken ribs over the alternative.
