A 40-year-old man suspected of stealing underwear from a laundromat in Japan was found to have more than 1,000 items of women's garments at his home.
Toru Adachi—who is employed at a coin-operated laundry store in the city of Bungo-ono—was detained on Monday. During a search of his home, police discovered approximately 1,100 items of underwear inside bags and futon cases—used to store the quilted mattresses., an online newspaper based in Tokyo, which first reported the news, Adachi was tracked down using surveillance camera footage from a laundromat in Oita City.
Adachi was being questioned by police about his suspected involvement in at least 10 incidents of underwear theft within the past year,reported, noting that the investigation remains ongoing. The motivation behind the alleged thefts was not immediately clear.A similar case came to light in July 2017 after Tokyo police detained a 61-year-old delivery man called Yasushi Kobayashi, who was also found with more than 1,000 items of women's clothing at his home.
