The woman later followed the mother and toddler into the parking lot and began stabbing them with a knife she grabbed earlier from a thrift store, police said. The attack took less than five seconds.
Judge Brian Hagan set Ellis’ bond at $1 million in Rocky River Municipal Court on Tuesday afternoon. Ellis did not look at Hagan. She simply rested her head on a table in front of her. A Cuyahoga County grand jury is expected to consider the case within the next several days. “There’s a lady with a knife stabbing somebody in the lot at Giant Eagle,” a woman told dispatchers. “She’s walking toward Lorain with a knife in her hand.”
Ellis then proceeded to follow them out to the parking lot and attack them, police said. Margot Wood was stabbed once in the shoulder. Her son was stabbed in the face and back.
