Suspect flees police before causing major three-vehicle crash on Aurora Ave

Seattle police and fire department officials at the scene of a three-vehicle collision that occurred in the early morning of Feb. 24, 2024. The Seattle Police Department is investigating a major crash along Aurora Ave. N after a driver was attempting to escape police.Police told KOMO News they were trying to conduct a traffic stop along 105th Street and Aurora Ave. N. before the suspect driver fled. Officials said the driver ran a red light and crashed with two other vehicles.

"I heard it, a collision, but I saw the car on the far side there probably doing at least 100 or 120 mph," said Timothy Gregory, who was at the scene of the crash. Seattle police said they did not pursue the suspect before the crash occurred. Police added the suspect driver fled on foot after the crash.

"I heard like a gunshot, but it was actually the wreck, so I turned around and came back," said Gregory.The crash forced Aurora Ave to be shut down in both directions for an hour and a half. Witnesses saw when first responders rescued the victim out of his car. “I started watching them do the jaws of life, pulling the guy out the gentleman was talking, so that’s a plus," said Gregory.The suspect driver is still on the run. Police have not released the suspect description.
