Anthony, the pioneering suffragist who never lived to see women get the right to vote—this year, the marker has been covered with a plastic protector to prevent the marble from being damaged while still allowing for the sentimental Election Day tradition to continue.
The tombstone of Anthony’s sister Mary S. Anthony, who is buried next to Anthony and was an important figure in the women’s suffrage movement in her own right, was also outfitted with a plastic cover.
