A remarkable Star Wars cosplay shows just why The Mandalorian era needs Mara Jade, the Emperor's Hand. Lucasfilm's plans for The Mandalorian era finally became clear at Star Wars Celebration 2023, when the studio officially announced a climactic movie that would draw all the narrative threads together.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A new Star Wars cosplay by Captain Kaycee serves as a reminder that the Force-sensitive named Mara Jade was an essential part of the "Thrawn trilogy" as well. One of Zahn's most popular characters, Mara Jade served as the Emperor's Hand - his personal agent, able to hear his voice from anywhere in the galaxy. The Emperor's death shook Mara to the core, leading her to join a smuggling crew, and she was tortured by an encounter with Luke Skywalker; the Emperor had implanted a last command for her to kill Luke, one she finally obeyed after a fashion by defeating his twisted clone Luuke instead.
Is It Too Late For Mara Jade To Become Canon Again? It's sadly too late for Mara Jade to enjoy the same kind of story seen in the "Thrawn trilogy" and beyond. There, she ultimately found herself in a relationship with Luke Skywalker; the two married and had a son, Ben, their marriage only coming to a tragic end when Mara was killed by Han and Leia's son Jacen.
But that doesn't mean Mara Jade cannot be woven into canon all the same. Her story may not end in the same place, but it can still begin there - with a Force-sensitive sworn to serve the Emperor who's struggling to figure out her new role in the galaxy after his death. Disney's version of Palpatine never cared much for the Rule of Two, attempting to circumvent it on countless occasions, meaning it's easy to imagine him employing such an agent.
She barely even fit with Lucas's canon, to be honest. She was introduced before the Prequel Trilogy was written (I think the Thrawn Trilogy was one of the first things to feature Coruscant, too), and Lucas famously didn't give a rat's ass about expanded universe continuity.
