The director of SuperSmashBrosUltimate, Masahiro Sakurai, looks back on and reflects on each of the game's Character Pass DLC trailers.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character reveal trailers set the internet on fire with each release, and now Masahiro Sakurai, Smash Bros. director and creator, is looking back and reflecting on each one. Sora from Kingdom Hearts was the final DLC character added to Smash Ultimate back in October of 2021. The final DLC character marked the end of the game's 5-year development cycle. Since the game's launch, Super Smash Bros.

The Smash Bros. franchise has allowed fans to play as many of their favorite characters over the years. With each new entry to the franchise, the game's creators surprised and delighted fans around the world with new characters being added to the game. Favorite characters from Nintendo properties and eventually other franchises like Minecraft and Final Fantasy made their way into Smash Ultimate.

Even though Smash Ultimate has officially concluded its development, its impact on fans has inspired many modders to continue adding content to the game. Many fans enjoyed speculating which new characters would be added to the game since almost no character seemed to be off the table after characters like Steve/Alex from Minecraft were added. Smash games usually starred characters from Nintendo franchises or other Japanese game studios.

The franchise has seen many entries, and there are currently no plans for a Smash Bros. Ultimate sequel. Sakurai has stated that developing new Smash Bros. games is incredibly stressful and not great for his overall health. Still, he can't imagine Nintendo ever making one without him. But with the enjoyment he and his team had after fans' reactions to new characters and reveal trailers, it would not be too surprising to see another game in the Smash franchise.
