Car companies want to make billions by charging monthly fees for features like heated seats, but buyers won't pay up

How would you feel about paying $5 each month for the ability to lock and unlock your car from a distance through an app? What about a $25-per-month charge for advanced cruise control or $10 to access heated seats? What if those charges continued long after your car was paid off?

But unlike with Netflix, you won't be able to use your ex-girlfriend's uncle's login in your new BMW. And car buyers don't seem too thrilled about the idea. This approach can also allow carmakers to streamline manufacturing by building cars to more uniform specifications, Mark Wakefield, who runs the automotive and industrial practice at the consulting firm AlixPartners, told Insider. Down the line, owners can add on the features they want à la carte.

No problem. Drop the price of vehicles to $5,000, and I think that people would be amenable to paying a minimal monthly fee for such amenities. Common sense 101.

😄😂🤣 Now the pricing of autos makes sense. CFO: We'll just raise the price until nobody can buy one. Then they'll lease. CEO: Blame it on the green lobby and unions. People don't want to buy anyway, they want to lease and get a new model every couple of years.

It’s interesting how many luxury brands have cut previously standard features like moonroofs, puddle lights and charging for upgrades that are standard on other classes of vehicles…so this was definitely expected to come with time

your car ? Nah, in the future no one will own the car. Everything will be renting and if you misbehave or don't pay they will block your engine by satellite. That's why I have a 100% non-electronic and gasoline car.

I'll never pay for any of that shit plus I'd wish they'd leave it completely out of the base models.
