As schools start the year with virtual learning, many children with special needs are finding the day-to-day education they are receiving falls short of their needs and less than what some have been legally promised they would receive

The Philadelphia woman, 39, is mother to two children, a 16-year-old son named Jaydon Scott and a 12-year-old daughter named Oliviah Scott. Both kids are sheltering in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both kids are in public school full time, online. Both kids have special needs that necessitate special accommodations for education — Jaydon is severely autistic and has Tourette syndrome, while Oliviah struggles with mild autism.

"One of the primary goals of her IEP is to assist with communication and reciprocal peer relationships," Jessye Cohen-Filipic explained."Social functioning is key to her success and her development, but I don't know how virtual learning can or will facilitate that at all."I assume that everybody involved with this is doing the best they can and wanting to make things better. For us, with our kid, it just feels like an impossible ask.

Another reason CNN should promote 'OPEN' schools, instead of supporting DEM's fearmongering efforts to keep them CLOSED! Also let viewers hear/know the truth regarding actual CDC statistics showing 6% of all reported (200k) deaths are from COVID-19 ONLY, w/no other co-morbidity.

As a father of 3 children with IEP’s I can say wholeheartedly that California is way behind the rest of the nation in complying with the education services promised to us parents. But it is to be expected when you consider the lunacy of the individuals running the state.

This is not hard. Open the schools

Let me tell you something, they don't get what they're guaranteed when they're in school either. Special education in this country is seriously lacking

As more schools offer in-person options, what happens to the students who stay virtual? As schools move to hybrid schedules, students are being split into two groups — in-person part-time and always virtual. Some parents are concerned their kids learning online only are being shortchanged. That’s because there’s a coordinated effort by the left to capitalize on Covid to make the economy as bad as possible in order to elect a guy with Alzheimer’s. The virtual students are missing the social interaction with their friends and teachers for sure. So sad. Get your kids back in the classroom!
