Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said training public health workers – specifically physician scientists such as himself, and updating the local public health networks – are key to preparing for a future pandemic.

“I've been saying this – quite frankly, for a couple of decades – that we really need to have a very solid pandemic preparedness plan and operational capabilities, because this is not something that is going to go away and never happen again,” Fauci said during a webinar with the Stanford School of Medicine on Monday.

Fauci said this is the third coronavirus pandemic in 18 years: SARS, MERS and now Covid-19. “We've really got to use this as a lesson to be prepared for the next one,” he said.Complacency is a real problem, Fauci said. In the United States, he said people have been a “victim of your own success.”

“We have let the local public health infrastructure in our country really go into tatters,” Fauci said.“We were so good at controlling smallpox, polio, tuberculosis, that we let the infrastructure locally, essentially, go unattended,” he added. Read more: CNN Breaking News »

Fauci expects tens of millions of coronavirus vaccine doses at start of 2021

Drugmakers will likely have tens of millions of doses of coronavirus vaccines in the early part of next year, Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious diseases official, said in a Reuters interview on Wednesday, offering a more conservative view of the ramp up than some Trump administration officials.

I vl Right decision😉! social justice police gonna do THIS Nope! Virtue signaling much? Bravo! Common sense prevails. Our kids are not worth the risk!! All politics. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Smart Thank you for not taking the advice of Doctor Trump who said the Coronavirus is nothing but a Hoax. Not essential at where ever covid 19 issuese. Educated people knw very well.

Kids fall farther and farther behind. That’s the game plan of the left, making you dependent on them. What will the black children do? Riot now Hmmmmmmm So glad that someone sees the light Ignorant Then no funding Good call Good call. Sacrifice face to face interaction in schools until a viable vaccine is available and all students and educators can get vaccinated.

Must be a dumbass in charge Keep our children safe Good, less chance to brainwash the kids, start community run schools again, like the old one room neighborhood schoolhouses. This is just about the teachers union, they don't want to work or make that little extra effort it would take to open up again, they are a bunch of spoiled lazy bastards.

Smart move Smart move. At least, the man acknowledges that the schools aren’t ready. Good! I wouldn’t send my kids anyway. realDonaldTrump 🖕🏿 LA-1, Trump-0 not on cnn news. 64 shot in Chicago this weekend . 👍👍👍👍 Totally political. I hope Trump holds all fed tax payer funds for education from them! noSchoolNomoney

Because mandatory weekly testing of students and teachers would require the teachers to actually have to work for the paychecks that haven't stopped during the shutdown.... Looks like Californians will be in store for school tax refunds to all tax payers while the schools are closed and the teachers are working 3 hr days at full time pay. Time for class action law suits for refunding school tax dollars while schools are closed.

Is it possible for a state to refuse to send tax dollars to washington? California should so they stop funding the bs that is trump era DC Why didn’t they consider outdoor classes? LAUSD spends more money per pupil, pays its teachers on average $65,000 per year and yet has some of the lowest academic scores in the nation. As long as the teachers union continues to get paid, they have no incentive to return to work.

Children ARE dying of COVID but not in the same numbers as adults; that could change! As silent spreaders, they put adults at risk. Opening schools to pacify Mad King Donald is a fool's game. Just say NO. He's father of 5, DAD to NONE & has NO clue. BLUE him GONE. It’s a good thing that none of their parents who now need to monitor their teaching don’t have essential jobs!

atta boy- somebody has a brain somewhere JustNOTinTheWHiteHouse Liberalism is the real disease Squirrel AI coming to America soon. So we don't have to pay property tax As well Our tax go to schools No Schools = No Tax GavinNewsom and ericgarcetti Are Failing We will never vote for them again and.... its a voting year... wow what a coincidence!

Good. At least they won’t be taught trash. Finally someone in charge with a brain. Our so called leaders surely don't have one, or they are just that evil. I go with both. Ask the parents what they want ... Good. It's the logical thing to do. This is a very dangerous move. I know many believe the MSM but Stanford’s study stated 0.04% death rate on those under 70. If liquor stores, grocery stores and Home Depot are deemed essential, are we actually saying education is non essential?

He Seems Like He’s The Smart One. Here In Texas, Cases Are “Supposedly” Rising On The Daily With The Total Now Over 6000 & They Want To Start School Next Month! 🤦🏻‍♀️ SMART MOVE !! Good call! I think that is a wise decision, I wish Illinois had a brain 🧠 when it comes to that, all the children are required to wear masks all day

So we can lower pay due to working at home. Yep. My kids were not going back regardless of what the District decided. Sending them back would be like someone telling you there's going to be a school shooting, just maybe not in your child's classroom. Parents have to make hard choices. It's called being a parent.

bravo!!!!👏👏👏 so glad thank you lausd Very Intelligent move. MissAmERICA_H maybe this is a step in the right direction!!! Wow!! Cue 'liberal agenda' rhetoric, led by the Tangerine Drama Queen Translation: we don’t give a fuck about the mental/physical well being of the children. Finally...someone with common sense making decisions and speaking out. Thank you!
