of the K-pop world are suffering from “Side Effects” in their latest single, which dropped Wednesday ."Side Effects" is a propulsive EDM-pop hybrid track that dabbles in psytrance. Throughout it, the nonet aggressively rallies against going along with the way things are against their will, shouting declaratively “My head hurts” repeatedly as a response to the situation.
Along with “Side Effects,” the new Stray Kids EP features six other new songs, including four “Mixtape” tracks. Throughout the album, the act offers up some electro-pop tracks, moving a bit away from their more hip-hop orientation to create a septet of songs that feel fit for the summer with their breezy beats and addicting melodies.
In the music video that was released for "Side Effects," the nine men are seen arriving at a bus stop and being driven somewhere, with industrial checkpoints and road closures regularly appearing as they dance and fight with one another. The glitchy digital effects play a major role in setting the scene, revealing that perhaps all is not as it seems.
Fans took to social media to try to make sense of the music video and connected it to the group’s last music video, for their single “Miroh.” While that clip saw them rebelling against the futuristic, hyper-capitalist system in the city, this one moved them to the countryside, but the city is still visible in the distance at some points.
