) - An intense stomach virus continues to battle through Fairhope, impacting two elementary schools and getting hundreds of students sick.
The Alabama Department of Public Health is investigating, and there’s suspicion it could be norovirus. Doctors said the virus seems to last about 24-48 hours, and the main symptoms are nausea and vomiting. Reportedly, the bouts can be fierce. One mother at Fairhope East Elementary, whose children are not sick, still decided to pull them from school Friday.
“I’ve heard from other parents at East and West about how rough it was for their children, and our oldest has special needs, so we did not want to do that will all three of ours,” said Olivia Jackson.Parents hoped this virus will settle by next week.FOX10 News is awaiting official word from Baldwin County Public Schools and the ADPH on what this virus is and how it originated.
